Working papers between Kredel, Todd, and H. Bittner and Company consisting of preliminary sketches by Kredel, holograph notes on dress, accoutrements, and stance by Todd, which comment on the sketches and cite research sources, a few holograph notes from Kredel querying Todd on specifics of dress, and 6 plate proofs carrying Todd's comments on coloring. Many of Todd's notes refer to intermediate sketches by Kredel which are not present here. Accompanied by a prospectus for the book, a corrected proof of the title page, and three typescript and holograph letters from Todd to Kredel and to Mr. Bittner concerning the illustrations.

Fritz Kredel was a renowned and versatile illustrator and artist. He found early success in Germany, culminating in a Gold medal for Book Illustration at the 1937 Paris World Exposition. His success continued in the United States, where he illustrated a book written by Eleanor Roosevelt, and later was commissioned to design a woodcut of the Presidential Seal for John F.
